How do I connect Streamlabs OBS to ViMP?

Editions: all
Versions: 4.0.0+

With Streamlabs OBS you can easily bundle, process and send live streams to ViMP to make them available to your audience.

Streamlabs OBS is available as a free download for Windows, Linux and macOS.

Download the latest version here: https://streamlabs.com/streamlabs-obs

Then follow the Streamlabs OBS installation instructions: https://howto.streamlabs.com/streamlabs-obs-19/streamlabs-obs-setup-and-getting-started-8

If you are asked for the platform you want to connect to the first time you start, please skip this step by clicking on the "Skip" link.

If you are already using OBS Studio, you can simply import your data into Streamlabs OBS in the next step. Otherwise, click on "Start Fresh".

In the following steps, set up your camera and microphone and you will be able to select a theme (for the default theme, select "Skip" here as well).

To be able to integrate the stream on ViMP, you need an additional streaming server, such as Wowza.

Please follow the instructions for connecting a livestream with Wowza: https://www.wowza.com/docs/how-to-connect-a-publisher-to-wowza-streaming-engine

Then enter the stream you've created in Wowza into Streamlabs OBS as follows, by going to the Stream item in the settings:

Streamlabs OBS Settings

Platform: Custom Streaming Server
Server: RTMP path to your streaming server (including application)
Stream key: can be selected arbitrarily

If you have enabled authentication for the stream in Wowza (recommended), enter your username and password in the corresponding fields.

Then add the sources of your stream by clicking on the "+" in the "Sources" window:

For example, to capture your webcam, select "Video Capture Device". To screencast your screen, select "Display Capture" or "Window Capture".

Every single stream can be positioned individually in size and position on the "screen".

Then start your stream using the Streamlabs OBS "Go Live" button. Switch back to the Wowza configuration and open the "Incoming Streams":

The stream created by Streamlabs OBS now appears here. Use the "Test Player" function to check whether the stream can be played correctly.

The URL, which you enter at the end in ViMP in the corresponding livestream settings, would then be as follows for our example above:

http://yourstreamingserver.com:1935/vimp_obs/myStream/playlist.m3u8
